How often should I visit my dentist?
We recommend that you schedule a routine dental exam and cleaning with our team at least twice each year. If you suffer from gum disease or have other dental needs, our dentist may recommend coming back more frequently.
What should I expect at my first visit with the dentist?
New patient visits are dedicated to assessing your present oral health. It usually includes, a review of your complete health history, head and neck evaluation of soft tissues and cancer screening, necessary x-rays (we use digital x-rays to minimize radiation), and in many cases a cleaning.
I do not have a toothache and I do not I have any problems. Do I still need to visit the dentist?
We recommend coming to our office for your routine, biannual check-ups, even when you think your smile is doing fine. Dental decay is not always visible to the naked eye, and if we catch it early we can prevent the need for extensive dental service down the road. We can also help you stay on top of your gum health and provide feedback on your smile’s health.
What if my gums bleed when I floss or brush my teeth?
If your gums are sore, redder than usual, or bleed easily, you may be suffering from gum disease. Gum disease can put your smile at risk for damage and can lead to tooth loss. If your gums are inflamed or having any other problems, we encourage you to contact our team at Atkinson Family Dentistry right away!
